Who in common parlance does not use these two terms indiscriminately?
However, there are substantial differences between the two products.

Examples of processing done with lanacotta or felt

COATED WOOL is a type of fabric similar to felt or cloth.
It is not possible to call it a fabric precisely because it is not the result of weaving a woolen yarn but is obtained by felting a piece, made by knitting which causes it to shrink by up to 30 percent.
Theresult of this process is a heavy and very thick cloth.

LODEN, on the other hand, is a typical Tyrolean FABRIC.

The word “loden” can be made to derive from lodo, which in archaic German translated to “bale of wool,”,or it can still be translated to “coarse fabric.”
Unlike boiled wool, however, this fabric is warm and soft, very durable and long-lasting.
Fifty steps and forty days of work are required to make it.
Once the sheep have been sheared and the yarn obtained, the wool is woven.
This produces a coarse cloth that is fulled (compressed and beaten) by special machinery until it is felted-this process makes the cloth more durable.
Next comes dyeing, gauzing, shaving and combing.
These treatments direct and flatten the hair fibers in one direction, which helps and slips any drops of water that may fall on the cloth, increasing its water resistance.

Loden: heaviness and uses

Depending on the type of yarn, we can get very different weave weights suitable for different situations.
In fact, we can range from a light product suitable for decorative drapery to a much coarser texture with which to even make carpets.
Thanks to its high resistance to wear, its softness and its technical characteristics, this fabric is perfect for making upholstered furniture, sofas, armchairs, headboards for beds, and cushions for bench turners.
Come and touch this fabric and appreciate its features.
We look forward to seeing you in the store.
